Business Community, Manufacturers Encouraged To Take The “it’s Our Shot, High Point” Pledge

Local employers’ productivity has largely depended on creating and maintaining safe work environments and being informed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, manufacturers—a sizeable sector of employers that represents 20% of High Point’s total workforce—have been challenged to keep up with productivity demands, and in addition manage their workspaces in safe and healthy ways.

With this in mind, Business High Point partnered with the Guilford County Health Department, the Foundation for a Healthy High Point, and the High Point Community Foundation in September to launch a campaign called It’s our shot, High Point to give manufacturers and the business community greater access to resources and information during this critical time.

According to Patrick Chapin, President & CEO, Business High Point—Chamber of Commerce, “At the outset of It’s our shot, High Point, our focus was to help be a resource and provide access to critical information for businesses. We are thrilled that a growing number of High Point employers are taking advantage for the betterment of their employees and workspaces.”

The campaign has centered on encouraging companies to take the OUR SHOT safety pledge through such actions as:

  • hosting on-site vaccination stations through the Guilford County Public Health Department—to provide employees that so choose, easy access to get a shot;
  • offering paid time off (PTO) for employees to get vaccinated—and getting back tax credits
  • attending webinars, such as “COVID-19 Safety for Your Company; What Businesses Need to Know”; and
  • sharing key educational resources with employees.

Vann York Auto Group was the first employer to participate in the campaign. “The health and safety of our employees and customers are our main priorities,” said Greg York, President, Vann York Auto Group. “Teaming up with It’s our Shot, High Point to bring vaccines to our dealerships was a definite win-win.”

Brian Norris, senior director of strategic initiatives for Business High Point reported that thus far, 36 companies are participating in the campaign, 17 of those companies have either hosted or attended a mobile vaccine station, and 336 doses have been given.
