Home From the Executive Director

Change is never easy, whether it comes as a welcome shift, an unexpected challenge, or a necessary adaptation. Across the nonprofit and government sectors, many of our partners are navigating uncertainty as new federal mandates take shape.

We recognize the fear and unease that often accompany these transitions. However, during times of disruption, we must stay anchored in our vision, mission, and values. If we remain steadfast, we can continue making progress toward addressing the social and economic causes of poor health outcomes in our community.

At the Foundation for a Healthy High Point, we are committed to standing alongside our partners through these changes. We respect and embrace the diversity of our community and pledge to be a reliable partner, even in times that feel chaotic and distracting. We are listening, and we will continue to hear and respond to the needs of our Funded and Strategic Partners. Those of us working in this space have seen our share of ups and downs over the years, and if there is one truth we know, it is that people and communities are resilient. With change comes new opportunities, leadership, relationships, and fresh dialogues that can move us all forward together.

This period of transition also brings change within our organization. We bid farewell to long-serving Board members who have dedicated their time and expertise to advancing our mission. Rev. Frank Thomas, Dr. Frosty Culp, Dr. Patrick Hardmon, and Jeremy Moseley have played an invaluable role in shaping the Foundation’s work. At our Board dinner in January, we had the opportunity to express our deepest gratitude for their years of service. Their dedication has been instrumental in fostering philanthropy that will have a lasting impact on Greater High Point.

At the same time, we are excited to welcome three new Board members: Dr. Adia Ross, Tesila Sexton, and Rev. Dr. Daniel Webb. Each brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to improving health outcomes in our community. We look forward to their fresh perspectives and contributions as we continue to advance our mission. You can read more about them in this issue.

Finally, we highlight our Fall 2024 grant recipients. With over $2.5 million awarded in grants and charitable distributions for the year, we continue to address critical areas such as behavioral health, early childhood development, food security, and workforce development. These partnerships are a testament to what we can achieve when we come together with a shared vision for a healthier High Point.

In this issue, we highlight some exciting updates, including:

  • Triad Health Partnership’s work in HIV/AIDS care—expanding efforts in High Point, helping individuals get the treatment and support they need.
  • A reflection from outgoing Board Member Rev. Dr. Frank Thomas—on his time serving the Foundation and the broader community.
  • Our Fall 2024 grant recipients—with over $2.5 million awarded in grants and charitable distributions for this year to support behavioral health, early childhood development, food security, and workforce development.

Additionally, we are particularly pleased to support four initiatives focused on Medicaid Expansion, an area of great importance as North Carolina broadens access to healthcare. The response to our Special Solicitation was robust, with many innovative proposals. We are excited to see these initiatives take shape and improve health access in High Point.

Despite the challenges that change may bring, we remain optimistic about the road ahead. We will continue to make meaningful progress through collaboration, adaptability, and a steadfast commitment to our mission.

As always, we remain committed to partnering with organizations and individuals who share our vision for a healthier, more equitable High Point. Thank you for inviting us to be part of this journey with you.

With gratitude,

Curtis Holloman, Executive Director
