About the Grant Writing Assistance Fund

The Foundation for a Healthy High Point supports capacity building for nonprofit organizations and the broader nonprofit community. We recognize that many nonprofits often lack the staff, time, or resources to focus on grant writing. To fill this gap, the Grant Writing Assistance Fund connects nonprofit organizations with experienced grant writers at no cost to the nonprofit, enabling them to pursue funding opportunities outside of Guilford County.

How It Works: Your nonprofit organization identifies a potential grant through a state or federal agency, a state or national foundation, or other funder outside of Guilford County. The prospective grant opportunity must be at least $50,000, and grant funds must be used to support residents of Greater High Point and align with the Foundation’s mission to address social determinants of health using upstream approaches. If the grant opportunity meets all of those criteria, your organization can apply to the Grant Writing Assistance Fund.

The Foundation will review applications for eligibility. If approved, the Foundation will connect you with a grant writer or vet a grant writer that your organization may have previously identified. For grant writing assistance, the Foundation will contract with and pay the grant writer directly for approved applications. Nonprofit organizations will be asked to complete a Letter of Agreement outlining their roles and responsibilities, such as making time for meetings with the grant writer and providing timely responses to the grant writer’s questions/drafts.

Timeline:

  • Applications are accepted year-round on a rolling basis.
  • Notification is within two weeks of submission.

Funding Criteria for the Grant Writing Assistance Fund

The Foundation will use the following criteria to guide decision-making for Grant Writing Assistance requests:

  • Grant Writing Capacity Need: Priority will be given to organizations that lack dedicated development staff, or have limited existing grant writing capacity.
  • Project Viability: The organization must have the capacity to receive and manage the requested funds.
  • Timeline: An application for Grant Writing Assistance must be submitted with adequate lead time for a grant writer to work with the nonprofit organization to apply for this grant – ideal lead times will vary based on the type of grant being pursued (e.g. more time will be needed to respond to a federal grant than to a private foundation).

The Grant Writing Assistance Fund will not provide grant writer support for:

  • Projects that do not serve the Greater High Point area of North Carolina, including High Point, Jamestown, Archdale, and Trinity.
  • Projects that do not align with the Foundation’s strategic funding priorities.
  • Grant applications to local funders within Guilford County.
  • Existing development/grant writing staff salaries at the nonprofit organization.
