Message from the Executive Director
As summer winds down and a new school year begins, I’m excited to share some of the remarkable initiatives our Funded Partners have been working on. These stories highlight the unique and impactful work underway in Greater High Point.
For several years, we’ve supported Z. Smith Reynolds Non-Profit Internship Program (NPIP), motivated by our belief in the importance of nurturing the next generation of nonprofit professionals in our area. But there was an additional benefit this year in our support of High Point Schools Partnership’s intern Jessica Anguiano, who brought an added layer of fulfillment. Jessica, a senior majoring in elementary education, is a Guilford County resident who plans to return to High Point to teach after she graduates. While I value all the NPIP internships we have supported, this one was particularly satisfying in that our investment in high quality, hands-on training resulted in Jessica’s intention to return to the High Point community. And the High Point Schools Partnership, a first-time participant in the program, benefited from the additional summer staffing.
Another exciting development comes from our Funded Partners who make up the High Point Behavioral Health Advocacy Workgroup. This dedicated group was well-prepared when Guilford County issued a Request for Information to address transportation barriers to accessing care. As part of their ongoing collaborative efforts to tackle common challenges, the coalition continues to develop ideas and explore support for a pilot to provide a comprehensive transportation solution.
We continue to support efforts to expand The Basics, an evidence-based program supporting parents and early childhood development, into Trinity and Archdale through our support of the Randolph Partnership for Children. This program gives us the opportunity to fund an initiative tailored to the needs of Trinity and Archdale, two important communities in our service area.
These are exciting times in the nonprofit space and in High Point, and we are honored to be a part of the work of addressing the upstream challenges that impact health and well-being in our community.
Best regards,
Curtis Holloman
