Recognizing the Dedication of Our Board

The Foundation for a Healthy High Point relies on the leadership of our Board of Directors for support through the generous gifts of time, skills and experience, and other resources. Board service is a meaningful commitment, one that requires time, thoughtful engagement, and a steady belief in the mission of the organization.

As we begin 2026, we are grateful to Tony Collins, Dr. Jim Hoekstra and Kia Streater who completed their terms at the end of 2025:

Tony Collins

Serving two terms beginning in 2020, Tony brought steady leadership and deep community knowledge to the Foundation. As a native of High Point and former Board Secretary, Tony served on both the Finance & Investments Committee and the Strategy & Grants Committee.

He was a consistent advocate for neighborhood-based and grassroots organizations, ensuring that our upstream strategy remained grounded in community voice and lived experience. His perspective helped strengthen our focus on social determinants of health and reinforced the importance of engaging residents in shaping solutions.

In recognition of his service, the Foundation made a $2,500 donation to support community-based efforts aligned with his commitment to South High Point.

Dr. Jim Hoekstra

Jim joined the Foundation’s Board in 2018 and remained an active and engaged member through his retirement from High Point Medical Center. He served on both the Strategy & Grants Committee and the Finance & Investment Committee, where his steady judgment and thoughtful insight were deeply valued.

Jim’s leadership helped shape our strategic grantmaking and strengthen our focus on maternal and child health, early childhood preparedness, and support for children and families. He played a key role in advancing partnerships such as Ready for School, Ready for Life and worked collaboratively to secure Duke Endowment support for our local Healthy People, Healthy Carolinas initiative.

In appreciation for his contributions and volunteer service, the Foundation made a $2,500 donation to a local nonprofit organization of his choosing that focuses on supporting early childhood readiness for school.

Kia Streater

Kia joined the Board in 2023 and served as a valued member of the Finance & Investments Committee. She stepped into her role during a period of transition and brought a thoughtful, steady presence to important discussions — particularly during our work with Bank of America and ongoing investment strategy adjustments.

Her leadership helped strengthen the Foundation’s financial position and supported our long-term ability to invest in upstream strategies that address social determinants of health, especially in the area of education. In recognition of her service, the Foundation made a $2,500 donation to support Guilford County Schools at her designation.

We also warmly welcome two new Board Members who will bring their own perspectives and expertise to the fulfillment of the FHHP strategic initiatives:

  • Jon Esser is a Certified Public Accountant who works closely with nonprofit organizations through his firm, Esser CPA, PLLC in High Point. Having lived in Tanzania for two years, Jon has a unique global perspective which benefits our work.
  • Myrna Wigley is deeply embedded in the High Point community, giving her time and energy to many organizations in High Point such as Women in Motion, the United Way of High Point, and currently Sisters of Hope. She is a professional financial advisor with Edward Jones.

The Foundation is grateful to each of these individuals for their service to our work and our community. As shared by Curtis Holloman, Executive Director, “Board leadership is one of the quiet strengths behind our work. I’m deeply grateful for the wisdom and steady commitment that Tony, Jim, and Kia each brought to the Foundation. Their combined service and perspective position us well for the work ahead. At the same time, I am excited to welcome Jon and Myrna as we continue building on the foundation together.”
